After losing a second half lead in a loss at Missouri State on Sunday Drake made the key plays down the stretch at Southern Illinois. Richard Carter’s three pointer gave the Bulldogs the lead for good with just more than a minute to play in a 61-56 victory over the Salukis.

Drake coach Mark Phelps says they didn’t play their best overall game, but made the plays they needed down the stretch to win the game. The Bulldogs won the game despite committing 20 turnovers.

Phelps says they shot 50-percent from the field and got to the free-throw line 22 times and that helped them overcome the turnovers.

Chris Hines led a balanced attack for Drake with 12 points while Jordan Clarke added 11 as the Bulldogs improve to 4-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
