Drake could not finish off Evansville and it cost them. Colt Ryan’s late three pointer sent the game to overtime and the Aces beat the Bulldogs 84-78 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Drake coach Mark Phelps on his postgame show on KRNT in Des Moines said they weren’t able to get a defensive rebound two straight possessions, but finally got a three to sent it into overtime. In the overtime he said they wanted to go ahead with a play without letting the defense get set, and they couldn’t finish it off.

Phelps says the game should never have gotten to overtime. “It’s really, really, really unfortunate and disappointing that we didn’t come out with the win. It was our game there, we had to finish it and we couldn’t do it,” Phelps said.

Ben Simons led Drake with a season high 27 points. Drake falls to 5-8 in the Valley and 11-13 overall.
