The city council in the southern Iowa town of Centerville has terminated the contract of a convicted sex offender who was hired last week as its temporary city administrator. A statement from the city states the contract with 37-year-old Kevin Stocker was terminated on Tuesday.

Stocker was hired last Thursday and was expected to help craft the city’s new budget through at least the end of April. Stocker was arrested and charged with “enticing a minor” in Cedar Falls in December of 2005. Police said Stocker tried to arrange a meeting with what he thought was a 15-year-old girl for the purpose of having sex.

He was convicted of the charge in 2006 and was sentenced to probation and a suspended two year prison term. City officials say Mayor Jim Senior knew about Stocker’s criminal conviction but did not share the information with city council members before Stocker was hired.
