Myah Mellman poured in 25 points as top ranked Mason City ousted defending champion Iowa City West 72-53 in class 5A action. Seventh ranked Southeast Polk did not allow fifth ranked Muscatine to score a field goal for the final five minutes and 26 seconds as the Rams rallied for a 48-45 victory.

Southeast Polk coach Tracey Dailey says her team picked up the intensity on defense in the second half. “I think they played a great game, they fought, and we knew they were going to bring everything they had. I think we could have brought a little big more, that’s stuff to work on for Friday,” Dailey says.

Leti Lerma led Muscatine with 17 points as the Muskies close the season with a record of 20-4.

Brittany Hedrick scored 24 points and second ranked Ankeny shot a sizzling 56 percent from the field in a 66-58 victory over Cedar Rapids Washington in a class 5A quarterfinal. Ankeny coach Scott DeJong says his team answered everything that was thrown at them.

Ashley Faber sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer and Kaitlyn Mauk drained a tie-breaking 3 in the extra session to lift the eighth-ranked Maroons past fourth ranked Des Moines East 47-41.

Megan McCarthy scored 21 points and the Sioux City Heelan defense forced 26 turnovers as the second ranked Crusaders beat Dubuque Wahlert 63-47 in a class 4A quarterfinal round game. Fifth ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier held off a furious rally by Lewis Central and cashed in at the free throw line to post a 50-45 victory in a class 4A quarterfinal round game.

Sarah Dickes led Xaxier with 13 points. She made five of seven free throws and as a team the Saints connected on 22 of 31 from the line. Defense has always been a strength for Xavier and it was on display in the opening round as Lewis Central connected on only 39 percent for the game.

Lewis Central standout Aubrey Norville survived foul trouble to finish with a game-high 28 points on 10 of 13 shooting. Trailing by 11 points with about three minutes remaining Lewis Central roared back to within three before Xavier put the game away at the stripe.

Norville says they have been able to come back all year and they knew they would again.

The final game was a 1A semifinal as Newell Fonda rolled to 69-52 win over Bellevue Marquette.
