More heavy snow is in the forecast and a Winter Storm Warning is posted for more than 30 counties in north-central and northeastern Iowa. Meteorologist Aubrey Wilkins, at the National Weather Service, says the flakes will start falling later today  and won’t let up until well into tomorrow.

Wilkins says, “We will see some light precipitation off and on throughout most of the day and into the evening hours into the late and overnight hours, the snow will really pick up, especially across the north and the northeast.” She predicts there will be plenty of shoveling and snowblowing in northern Iowa by tomorrow.

“We could see six to nine inches across the northeast, maybe from Mason City to Waterloo,” she says. Snowfall amounts are expected to rise, the further east the storm goes.

Wilkins says, “I do see that in the far northeast, up towards the Wisconsin/Iowa/Minnesota border, you could see higher amounts up there, a little bit over ten (inches) maybe.” Icy roads are making the going slow this morning across a wide section of northern Iowa.

Many schools are planning to open two hours late, including: Algona Schools, Seton, Bishop Garrigan, Titonka, West Bend Mallard, Gilmore City-Bradgate, Emmetsburg public and Catholic, North Union Schools, Twin Rivers Elementary of Bode, Corwith Wesley Luverne, and North Iowa of Buffalo Center — all two hours late.
