Students on a schoolbus in a suburb of Des Moines got a wild ride this morning. The West Des Moines Police Department says a school bus carrying 11 elementary students went off the roadway at 7:41 this morning.

The West Des Moines School District bus reportedly went through several yards, hit a truck parked in a driveway, and then hit a house. None of the children were injured according to the police report, although the bus, the parked truck and the house all suffered extensive damage.

Roads were snowy and icy at the time of the accident, but police say there are investigating to determine exactly what caused the bus to leave the roadway.

Update 1pm.
A police report estimates damage to the school bus at $15,000, damage to the home at $75,000, to the parked pickup at $5,000, and $100 for a mailbox that was knocked over.  The report indicates the driver missed a curve on the slushy road.
