Emotional testimony was heard last night dealing with the planned closing of some Girl Scout camps. It took place at a town hall-type meeting in Bettendorf.

The Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois Girl Scout Council plans to close four camps, including Camp Conestoga near Dixon in Scott County. The camps are slated for closing because the Girl Scouts are having some financial problems.

They also say girls are less interested in primitive camping these days, leading to declining attendance. The money from the sale would be reinvested into a new outdoor learning center.

Nearly 100 people, including Girl Scouts, attended the town hall, one of several planned. Many say they don’t wants the camps to close. A decision will be made March 28th.
