Two family members who ran a milling operation in the northeast Iowa town of Waverly have died in a grain bin accident. Around 1:00 yesterday afternoon, Rick Schneider and his son, Adam, were checking on a small corn fire at one of the grain bins at their family mill on the eastern edge of Waverly.

Soon after climbing into the grain bin, the two were trapped inside. Rescuers say that they had to cut into the bin and pulled the Schneiders out from under between 8 and 10 feet of corn.

Both were taken to the Waverly hospital, but efforts to save their lives were unsuccessful. OSHA says they will be investigating the accident.
