Iowa senators have passed a bill that would speed the process for elderly veterans who want to get a driver’s license with the word “VETERAN” stamped across it. A state law passed last year allows Iowans with the proper documents to get that “VETERAN” stamp when they renew their licenses.

Senator Jeff Danielson says some of Iowa’s oldest veterans could die before their licenses come up for renewal. “This bill would allow them to renew their driver’s license immediately and designate that they’ve served Iowa and their country,” Danielson says.

The bill, however, did raise the fee for getting a duplicate license from three dollars to 10 bucks. The entire proposal now goes to the House for consideration.
