It took a lawsuit, but the Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois have agreed to delay a vote on the controversial sale of four eastern Iowa camps. A committee recommended to the Girl Scouts that they sell the camps in Scott, Dubuque, Des Moines and Allamakee counties.

The committee cited lower attendance resulting in declining income that no longer keeps up with operating costs. But five women who worked or volunteered at the camps filed suit Friday in Scott County District Court, requesting an injunction to stop the Girl Scout council’s board from a scheduled vote today on the sale.

At an injunction hearing yesterday, the council agreed to delay the vote and seek a compromise on the future of the camps.
