A wide variety of weather is in store for Iowa this week. Jim Lee is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “We’ve got a very active weather pattern in place with several areas of low pressure approaching the region, so we’ll be seeing quite a bit of precipitation over the next several days, taking several different forms,” Lee says.

Some showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible across much of Iowa tonight and into Tuesday. The rain could change to snow Wednesday into Thursday, especially over northwest Iowa. In addition to the rain and snow, temperatures will be dropping dramatically as the week progresses.

“Today we’ll be seeing highs in the 70s across most of Iowa, but then by Wednesday, the highs across the northwest will only be in the mid 30s,” Lee said. “It’ll be quite a cool off. We’re looking at 30s and 40s statewide Thursday and Friday.”

Rainfall totals for this week are expected between one to two inches. Warmer weather should return early next week – as highs are forecast for the low to mid 60s on Sunday.
