The deadline is less than two weeks away to submit nominations for this year’s Trees Forever volunteer awards. Mark Signs is spokesman for the Marion-based organization which is dedicated to planting trees in communities across Iowa.

The group tries to recognize its outstanding people, projects and partners for community tree planting programs, buffer programs and roadways and trails programs statewide. Signs says they work with some 200-to-300 communities and groups every year.

He says the awards are being offered in several categories. They want to recognize outstanding volunteers, youth volunteers and groups, business and educational partners, media partners and elected officials who are strong advocates for trees.

Signs says entries need to be submitted soon. The deadline for applications is May 1st so the process can be complete for the annual celebration which will be held this year on June 13th.
