The man Governor Branstad hired in December of 2010 to lead education reform efforts in the state has been chosen as the new leader of a school district in Colorado.

Iowa Department of Education director Jason Glass was hired tonight by the school board in Eagle County, Colorado to be the district’s superintendent. Glass had previously worked in the district for three years, as director of human resources, and helped implement a “pay for performance” system for teachers there.

Glass will get a $26,000 raise in his new job. He’ll oversee a staff of more than 850 and a student body of over 6200. The school district includes the ski resort towns of Vail and Beaver Creek and the district offers a ski and snowboard academy to students in fifth through 12th grades.

Officials in the Colorado school district announced they’d hired Glass a few hours after the Iowa House and Senate passed some of the education reform initiatives Glass had been advocating.
