Des Moines Area Community College has reached an agreement to settle a free-speech lawsuit filed by a student. Jacob Dagel filed the lawsuit after he was barred by a security guard from distributing fliers that criticized the college for subsidizing a March conference on LGBTQ youth.

Court documents show the college agreed to pay him $100 and will cover his lawyer fees of $13,700 to end the case without admitting wrongdoing. Dagel told Radio Iowa he could not comment on the settlement and referred questions to his attorney, David Hacker with the Alliance Defending Freedom. Hacker has not responded to a request for comment.

The school has already pledged to no longer enforce a policy that required students to distribute literature at a table in the student center and to get permission 10 days in advance.
