As the Iowa Speedway gets ready for it’s eighth season the track remains a popular destination with the drivers. The opening weekend of action is capped off by Saturday night’s’s DuPont Pioneer 250. Justin Allgaier is currently fourth in the points race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

“Iowa is unique, I think it is its own breed of racetrack,” Allgaier says. He says anyone building a new track should look to Iowa as he says it’s “a cool place, it races well.”

Allgaier says there are a lot of things he likes about the Iowa Speedway. “It’s face like a mile and a half, but it races like a short track, so it’s the best of both worlds,” Allgaier says. And he says the races have sold out each time he’s been there, so it’s a testament to the fans.

Travis Pastrana is looking forward to his return as he says it’s one of his favorite tracks, and he is looking forward to racing there.

Des Moines native Michael Annette says the track has changed as it matures. He says the first late model races were very close as the track was very smooth, and now you have to do a lot of work to get through the bumps and character the track has now.

The action begins Friday night with the NASCAR K@N Pro Series race.
