A northwest Iowa man is now facing a mandatory life term in prison. A Webster County jury on Thursday afternoon found 21-year-old Kirk Levin of Early guilty of killing his mother and kidnapping another woman after two hours of deliberation in Fort Dodge.

Levin was charged with first-degree murder and third-degree kidnapping. Closing arguments in the case were heard Thursday morning. The trial began on Monday. Levin was charged last January in the death of his mother Marilyn Schmitt.

He was also charged for abducting 21-year-old Jessica Vega, a woman he met online. Sentencing for Levin is set for July 12 in Sac City.
