Despite losing six seniors off last year’s team that posted a school record 33 victories, the Clear Lake High School baseball team is off to another fast start. The Lions are 11-1 heading into tonight’s matchup against West Fork and they are ranked second in class 3A in the latest Radio Iowa/Coaches poll.

Clear Lake coach Seth Thompson says they told the kids they’ve had a chance to see some great players and they now have the chance to do the same thing. Thompson says the culture of winning and doing things the right way carried forward even when kids graduate.

The Lions take a 10 game winning streak into tonight’s game. “Defensively I think we’ve been a lot better than I’d thought we’s be. And then offensively just being consistent to put runs up on the board night in and night out,” Thompson says.

The Pitching has been dominant as of late. The Lions have shutout their last four opponents with the top two pitchers being seniors. Thompson says they’ve also made some nice plays defensively to help out.
