A Waterloo man who was injured in a chase with police last week has died from his injuries. Twenty-three-year-old Hunter Burchard died Monday night at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Waterloo Police attempted to stop Burchard, who was on a motorcycle, last Thursday at 3 a.m. Officers said the traffic stop was initiated because a tail light was out on the motorcycle. Burchard, however, did not pull over and the officers gave chase.

Police say that chase ended when Burchard entered a construction zone and the motorcycle crashed into a parked excavator. The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
