Benton Community baseball coach Derrick Anderson has been pleased with his team’s start to the season. The Bobcats are 10-3 after a Monday night split of a doubleheader with Marion and they are ranked third in class 3A in the latest Radio Iowa/Coaches Poll.

Anderson says they still have a long way to go to be where they want to be at tournament time, but have a strong set of pitchers and are fielding the ball well.

Pitching has been a major factor in Benton’s success and Anderson says the staff has taken an aggressive approach to the mound. “Attacking the strike zone, controlling what you can control with every pitch you throw…even if you’re struggling, we’ve talked a lot about continuing to battle,” Anderson says.

Anderson says he would like to see his team become more consistent on offense. He says last week they were pleased with their quality of bats and approach at the plate. Benton returns to action tonight with a doubleheader at Anamosa.
