A northwest Iowa man died in a car-truck crash in Lyon County on Tuesday evening. Seventy-nine-year-old Gilbert and 75-year-old Betty Teunissen of Inwood were northbound on county road K30, three miles west of Doon.

As they approached county road A-52, there was a semi in the southbound lane driven by 55-year-old Duane Middle of Rock Valley. Middle was attempting to make a left turn onto A-52.

Middle waited for another oncoming vehicle to pass through the intersection but did not see the Teunissen vehicle and started to turn in front of it. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

Gilbert Teunissen received life-threatening injuries and was transported to Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls by helicopter. He later died due to his injuries.

Betty Teunissen’s injuries were described as non-incapacitating. She was transported by the Lyon County Ambulance.
