The Family Leader has announced that businessman and reality TV host, Donald Trump, has agreed to speak at the group’s leadership summit in August. Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, a Republican, was asked if this is an indication that Trump is a serious candidate for president.

“Well I think the people are going to have to make that determination. As you know, the last time he made a big splash and never showed,” Branstad said. “I think he’s going to have to overcome that impression if he wants to be considered a serious candidate.” Trump has toyed with the idea of running for president in the last two elections, but never followed through.

The Family Leader is a conservative group that has focused on preserving the family and traditional marriage. The group is led by Bob Vander Plaats, a former Republican candidate for governor. The Family Leader summit is scheduled for August 10th in Ames.
