Iowa linebacker James Morris says there is a sense of urgency surrounding the program as the Hawkeyes continue summer workouts in preparation for the 2013 season. Morris and his teammates are hoping to erase the memory of Iowa’s worst season since back in 2000 after they finished with a 4-8 record.

“Me being a senior I feel like it’s my last year there’s an inherent sense of urgency….you walk in and you start to notice things maybe with a different perspective. The thought is maybe this will be the last time I do this,” Morris says.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the players are motivated to get things turned around. “Basically with every challenge that has been in front of them they guys have handled it pretty well…but the most important thing really is what we do when we get to camp. And that’s why they are working hard right now to prepare for camp,” Ferentz says.

He says he likes the leadership show by the players and what he’s seen from their workouts so far.

Iowa opens the season at home on August 31st against Northern Illinois.
