Authorities have identified the two victims in a fatal shooting outside a Waterloo grocery store early Tuesday night, but are still looking for the shooter. Police say the homicide victim is 30-year-old Cederick “Joe” Matlock of Waterloo.

Matlock and another man were riding their bicycles along a heavily traveled Waterloo city street around 6 p.m. Tuesday. That’s when witnesses say a third man started shooting at them and both bicyclists were struck by the gunfire. Authorities believe that Matlock — after being shot — ran across the street and collapsed near the gas pumps outside a Kum & Go Convenience store.

The other bicyclist, identified as William Burt also of Waterloo, fell in the parking lot of the Save More Food and Liquor grocery store, where the shooting occurred. Both men were taken to separate local hospitals. Matlock was pronounced dead upon arrival and police say Burt remains hospitalized for treatment of wounds to the shoulder.

Investigators say they have several leads, but continue to interview witnesses and process the crime scene. It is the third reported shooting in Waterloo in less than a week.
