A Marshalltown man has admitted to a scheme where he filed fake expense claims worth thousands of dollars. Forty-eight-year-old Michael James Allison pled guilty to mail fraud for mailing his employer, Airgas Incorporated of Chicago, the fraudulent expense reports.

Allison admitted in a written plea that the fraud happened while he served as the chief financial officer and director of finance for the regional subsidiary of the company. He mailed false expense reports that said personnel expenses were business expenses and fabricated business expenses that totaled at least $300,000.

Allison submitted one claim for $9,000 for Ryder Cup golf tickets and expenses that were not for company use. Allison will be sentenced on October ninth and faces a possible maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a $250,000 fine.
