Wellmark is closing a subsidiary based in Sioux City where over 100 people work today.  Their work will be shifted to a Wellmark center in Des Moines.

In a written statement, Wellmark officials said the decision was driven by the increasing number and complexity of federal regulations and mandates and the rising costs associated with meeting them.

Wellmark employees in Sioux City will remain on the job until early 2014 to help transition the business. Sioux City-based employes will have the option to fill open positions at open Wellmark locations.

Wellmark’s Sioux City operation won the “Growing Sioux City” award on July 20th of last year after the companies hired 30 more employees and completely removed its 34,000 square foot facility.
