The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission this week approved a $20,000 fine for a violation at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona. Commission administrator, Brian Ohorilko, explains the details.

“It was a situation where there was an underage female who entered the gaming floor unchallenged, was on the floor for approximately and hour and gambled,” Ohorilko says. Staff at Racing and Gaming review such violations and come up with a proposed penalty.

“Prairie Meadows agreed to the facts of the case and agreed to paying the $20,000 fine, and the commission did approve that stipulation,” Ohorilko says. Ohorilko says the Altoona casino has done a good job overall of preventing underage violations.

Ohorilko says it has been over two years since the casino has had a violation like this. The commission approved the penalty at their meeting in Riverside Thursday.
