The UNI Panthers improved to 2-0 on the season with a 45-14 cruise past Drake on Saturday. The Panthers took control by racing out to a 17-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

“The first half I was pleased with the defense…we got the turnover for the touchdown, and I don’t think they got past the 50-yard line until about the last series right before halftime. So, I thought the defense did a nice job against their offense,” UNI coach Mark Farley said. He said he had hoped their offense could have done a little more.

Farley who says they are overall happy with their 2-0 start even though the offense struggled. “I’m not going to overanalyze what happened, our whole purpose was to come off that Iowa State and get this win, and find a way to get the win, and we did that because we came out well enough on defense,” Farley said.

With the loss Drake is now 0-2 to start the season. “I love our guys, I wouldn’t trade them for the world and I know that our guys are capable of playing better than they did, so I am having a tough time as a head football coach right now not having my team at their best,” Drake coach Chris Creighton said. He said a lot of their problems came because UNI is very good and said the Bulldogs made too many mistakes to be competetive.
