Agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are in Tama, looking into a homicide case. Police found 32-year-old Kerry O’Clair-Jefferson dead inside a home at 104 Harmon Street in Tama Wednesday afternoon. DCI Special Agent in Charge Bill Kietzman is not saying how O’Clair-Jefferson was killed, but says her injuries were “suspicious.”

Results of an autopsy have not been released. “There’s nobody in custody right now charged with her death,” Kietzman said. 57-year-old Ginger Jefferson, the victim’s mother-in-law, was taken into custody as a material witness.

Kietzman said, despite the lack of an arrest, there should be no reason for local residents to be concerned about their safety.”I think our investigation has shown…I don’t think there’s any kind of a public threat at this time,” Kietzman said.

On Kerry O’Clair-Jefferson’s Facebook page, she’s listed as a student at Marshalltown Community College and a former employee of the Iowa Veterans Home. Tama Police say Kerry’s husband, 38-year-old Dustin Jerome Jefferson, was arrested Wednesday evening but not for charges related to his wife’s death. He was wanted on a warrant out of the Meskwaki Indian Settlement.
