In Class 2A, Union was knocked out of the Radio Iowa rankings following their loss to Cascade last week, but the Knights have a chance to affect the ratings tonight when they visit top-ranked Waukon. Union coach Joe Hadachek says his team has to look at tonight’s game as a chance to bounce back. “I think there’s no other way to look at it to be honest with you, because what’s done is done,” Hadachek says.
Waukon currently leads 2A in both scoring offense and defense, but the Indians have yet to play a full four-quarter game, something that Hadachek says might work in Union’s favor. Running back Marcus Weymiller is the headliner of the Waukon offense, having scored ten touchdowns and on an average of more than 16 yards per carry.
But Hadachek says that opposing defense can’t focus in on just Weymiller.
Waukon is 5-0 but coach Chad Beerman says the schedule is much tougher going foward.
The Waukon defense has only given up 19 points so far this season. Waukon beat Union in the playoffs last season and Beerman says a big reason was the ability of the defense to contain Knights’ quarterback Jay Scheel.
Eight man
A pair of unbeatens collide in eight-man district seven as ninth ranked Coon Rapids-Bayard visits top rated Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton. Coon Rapids-Bayard is 6-0 and coach John Kesselring says his team is excited for the challenge. Kesselring says the game will come down to which team controls the line of scrimmage and they pride themselves on being able to stop the run.
Kesselring says the Crusaders need to do a good job of tackling against the Exira/EHK offense led by quarterback Drew Peppers. He says they like to get him into the open field and force you to tackle him. Exira/EHK is 5-0.
