A celebration is planned in Iowa City this afternoon for the naming of a new vision research center at University of Iowa Hospitals.

The center will focus on preventing and curing blindness. It’ll be named the Stephen A. Wynn Institute for Vision Research.

Wynn is a Las Vegas casino magnate and a billionaire who chairs the Wynn Resorts. He donated $25-million back in August to build the facility on the UI campus.

Wynn also suffers from a debilitating eye disease — retinitis pigmentosa. It’s degenerative and often leads to blindness. He’s expected to attend today’s event.
