The retrial of a southeast Iowa man, accused in the death of his pregnant wife, is getting underway today in Henry County. Seth Techel’s first trial, in Wapello County, ended in a hung jury back in March.

Police accused Techel of shooting his wife, Lisa, while she was sleeping in the couple’s home outside of Agency in May of last year. Prosecutors claim Techel was having an affair and wanted to avoid paying child support. Defense attorneys have maintained Techel was in the shower when he heard a noise and came out to find Lisa had been shot by an intruder.

Jury selection in Techel’s retrial started this morning. Opening arguments are expected on Tuesday.
