The winner of the 2012 Iowa Republican Party Caucuses is due in Iowa tonight for a private screening of the film his movie studio is releasing nationwide on November 22.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is now CEO of EchoLight Studios, a company that produces and distributes faith-based, family films. Santorum says the company is filling a void in the marketplace.

“A lot of folks don’t see movies that are out there on the screen that are for families and that are friendly to the kind of values that they have,” Santorum says. “…Even movies that may be otherwise good, decent, great story telling, well-made, but there’s always a scene or two it seems like — or sometimes more than a scene or two — that has sort of cringe-worthy moments that a lot of families just would rather not have to deal with.”

The company’s movie — “The Christmas Candle” — will be screened for an invitation-only audience in West Des Moines tonight.

“It’s based on a book by Max Lucado who’s one of the best-selling inspirational authors out there and it’s his first big theatrical release,” Santorum says. “…It’s just a wonderful, uplifting inspiring story, well-made, good story-telling, beautiful music.”

“The Christmas Candle” features an actress who starred in the recent “Les Miserables” movie.

“It’s movie that is set in Victorian England, so I think people will really enjoy the scenergy and sort of the ‘Downton Abbey’-ish, Christmas Carol’ kind of feel to the movie,” Santorum says. “The actors are really wonderful British actors and actresses.”

In keeping with the mission of  EchoLight Studios, the movie has a central message about faith.

“And we’re really excited because it’s a great story at Christmas time,” Santorum says. “It’s a Christmas story about faith and the importance of God being with us in our lives.”

Susan Boyle, the singer who first gained fame on “Britian’s Got Talent” and has released four albums, makes her film debut in the movie.

“She sings a beautiful Christmas song that Sony’s putting out this year,” Santorum says.

While EchoLight Studios plans to market the film to churches, it will be advertised to general audiences just like other Hollywood movies.

“We believe this movie actually has appeal to folks inside the church and outside the church,” Santorum says. “Anybody who wants a great little story and anybody who celebrates Christmas which is, you know, 80-plus percent of the people of this country.”

Santorum says private screenings of the movie will be held in Sioux City and Cedar Rapids, too, but those dates and locations are not set yet.
