A Dubuque woman has admitted to trying to hire a hit man on-line to kill her father. Court records show 23-year-old Megan Schmidt posted two adds on the Craigslist website using her iPhone seeking someone to do a “one time job.”
An undercover Dubuque County deputy responded to the adds via e-mail and Schmidt offered him $10,000 to kill a man. The deputy arranged to meet Schmidt and then arrested her. Schmidt told police she wanted to kill her father because he had assaulted her since she was young. She reached a plea agreement on a charge of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder for hire.
Schmidt faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine once a sentencing date has been set.
