The gunman who opened fire in a Des Moines neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon has died.  Police say 38-year-old Steven Vogel fired more than a hundred rounds from his yard, hitting seven other houses and three vehicles.

One passing motorist was grazed. When officers arrived, they say Vogel fired at them, they returned fire. He was eventually captured and had been shot at least once. The whole incident lasted about 20 minutes.

Vogel died Wednesday night though it’s unclear if he was shot by police or took his own life. Both officers are now on paid leave.
