Two men from Spencer were among eight hunters who had to be rescued from the icy Missouri River Thursday. The eight men were rescued from the river near Santee, Nebraska by a Nebraska State Patrol helicopter around mid-afternoon Thursday. The men told the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission that there wasn’t any ice on the river when they put their two 18-foot flat bottom boats into the water around 5:30 in the morning. Nebraska game officers couldn’t reach the men because of the ice and had to call in the helicopter.
