After spotting Fairleigh-Dickinson an early 6-0 lead the Iowa Hawkeyes took control with a 19-0 run and raced away to a 92-59 win in Iowa City. Gabe Olaseni, Melsahn Basabe and Jared Uthoff all finished with double-doubles as the Hawkeyes’ depth came through once again.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who says much of the credit goes to the defensive effort against Fairleigh-Dickinson leading scorer Sidney Sanders, who finished with 16 points. McCaffery says sophomore Mike Gesell did a good job of guarding Sanders. “That’s a hard guy to guard,” McCaffery says. He says you have to get through lots of screens to guard Sanders and Gesell did a great job.  “The thing about Mike is, he has really become a high level defender. He did the same Saturday against Drake. When the game starts, you can count on Mike Gesell,” according to McCaffery.

Iowa is now 10-1 and will visit Iowa State on Friday night.
