Divers have recovered the body of a man who fell through the ice Saturday on Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma. Chief Chris Widmer of the Montezuma Fire Department says the body of 57-year-old David Hartke of Grundy Center was found last night just after six o’clock. Hartke had been ice fishing on the lake.

Widmer says divers found Hartke inside the sport utility vehicle he had been riding when he fell through the ice. The divers had found the vehicle Saturday evening on its top  in 14 feet of water, but were unable to see Hartke at the time. The four-day search for Hartke was hampered by the cold weather that made conditions difficult for divers and limited their time in the water.
