A murder suspect from northeast Iowa was arrested on Wednesday in Lincoln, Nebraska. Authorities say they captured 23-year-old Perquondis Holmes of Waterloo without incident. Lancaster County (Nebraska) Sheriff Terry Wagner says they were acting on a tip. “We had received information that Holmes’ cousin lives in Lincoln and that he may be here,” Sheriff Wagner says. “He was wanted on a warrant out of Waterloo, Iowa, for felon in possession of a firearm in connection with a homicide that occurred in Waterloo.”
Holmes was considered dangerous and the sheriff says the fugitive task force from the U.S. Marshal’s Office was brought in. “We had been conducting surveillance to determine if Holmes was in town,” Wagner says. “We had several different addresses that we were looking at.” He says law enforcement officers involved in the search and apprehension of Holmes were very careful.
Wagner says, “The warrants charged him with felon in possession of a firearm, he’s a felon, he’s in possession of a firearm, he’s suspected of committing a homicide in Waterloo, dangerous, so we took all precautions.” Holmes is wanted in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Daequan Campbell. He was shot in the hip and chest in Waterloo on November 14th. There’s no word on a motive, though Sheriff Wagner indicates says gang ties are possible.
