A pedestrian was killed late last night on Interstate 35 in southern Iowa’s Warren County. The Iowa State Patrol says the elderly man was in a stranded vehicle waiting for help near the St. Charles exit, north of mile marker 52.

The man’s dog got away from him about 10:30 P.M. and as he tried to catch the animal, the man ran into the path of a passing SUV, was hit and killed. He’s identified as 74-year-old Lawrence Anderson, of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota. Troopers did not fault the SUV driver. No one else was hurt.
