Terry Branstad’s campaign team announced this morning that the Republican governor raised $3.4 million in 2013 for his 2014 campaign.

Financial disclosure documents aren’t due for a couple of weeks, but Branstad’s campaign announced they will report having over $4.1 million cash on hand on December 31. That is the largest balance ever held by a candidate for governor in Iowa at the end of a reporting period. According to Branstad’s campaign, 94 percent of the donations came from Iowans.

Branstad intends to seek an unprecedented sixth term as Iowa’s governor in 2014.

State Senator Jack Hatch, one of two Democrats who’ve announced they’re running for governor in 2014, lent his campaign $200,000 at the end of 2013. This past summer Hatch set a one million dollar year-end fundraising goal for his campaign, but Hatch told reporters last week he would not reveal his 2013 fundraising results until the filing deadline later this month. Paul Dahl, an unsuccessful 1994 congressional candidate, says he is running for governor, too.
