Cold shooting plagued Iowa State in a home loss to 15th ranked Kansas. The Cyclones connected on only 31 percent from the field, including four of 25 from three point range in a 77-70 loss. The Jayhawks took control by outscoring ISU 9-0 to start the second half and also outrebounded the Cyclones 50-33.

“We had some, I thought very good looks we normally knock down,” ISU coach Fred Hoiberg. He says they couldn’t have played much worse on the offensive end, but still had a chance to win and that is one positive they will take from the game.

The Cyclones hung around in part because of 24 Kansas turnovers. “That’s the only thing that kept us in the ballgame, that got us extra possessions, and then we got 16 offensive rebounds…and that shows you’re playing hard,” Hoiberg says. He says they had a couple of bad stretches starting the game and in the second half that Kansas took advantage of. “That’s what great teams do.”

Hoiberg says the Cyclones did not play well enough to earn the win and he says Kansas is playing as well as anyone right now. Two days after being carried off the court at Oklahoma with an ankle injury DeAndre Kane returned and led ISU with 21 points and Melvin Ejim added 15. The Cyclones fall to 14-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big 12.
