The Iowa Hawkeyes are getting some added rest after Saturday’s lopsided win at home against Michigan. The Hawkeyes do not return to action until Saturday’s game at Penn State. “Typically what we do on a week like this is spend time on ourselves,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says. That focus includes looking at video of the Michigan game, lifting and shooting, as well as working on things they think they need to sharpen up.

McCaffery is not surprised by the improvement of junior center Gabe Olaseni. The 6-10 native of London is averaging more than seven points and five rebounds per game in Big Ten play and is shooting 64 percent from the field.  “And that was purely by getting in the gym and working on his game. He works on his jump shot and free throws religiously. And you are seeing him shoot that with great confidence now,” McCaffery says.

He says they didn’t look at Olaseni as a project when they signed him, they saw someone who just needed to gain some experience.

The Hawkeyes are 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the Big Ten.
