An investigation by the state has determined the fatal shooting of a Sioux City man who was wanted for murder was justified. Felix Navarrete was shot by a Sioux City police officer as he tried to escape police through a second story window of an apartment on January 28th.

Navarrete was armed and was wanted for a double shooting on the city’s west side three days earlier. A report by Scott Brown of the State Attorney General’s Office states that the officer fired after being confronted with what reasonably appeared to be deadly force and the shooting was justifiable homicide.

Sioux City Police Chief, Doug Young, says he appreciates the hard work in the investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. “And also the timeliness of the report from the Attorney General’s Office.  It was an unfortunate event that occurred,  but the officer is back to work and now we can put this matter behind us and continue  serving the public,” Young says.

Chief Young says he is not releasing the name of the officer who fired the shot because of threats against him received by the police department.
