Speed beat size last night in Ames as the Iowa State Cyclones posted their 20th win of the season with an 85-76 victory over 19th ranked Texas. The Cyclones pulled away in the second half and improved to 8-5 in the Big 12. “I thought our defense was excellent in the first half — held them to 27 percent shooting,” ISU coach Fred Hoiberg said. He says they gave up some rebounds, but battled and had good offense in transition.

The Cyclones shot 49 percent for the game and were led by Melvin Ejim’s 25 points. Hoiberg says it was a complete effort by his team. “I thought we were really good, I thought we played hard, for that first 20 minutes we were all over out there,” Hoiberg said
