Terry Branstad’s campaign has spent nearly one-and-a-half million dollars in the past month and a half on his bid for a sixth term as governor.

The Branstad campaign raised more than $700,000 in the past seven weeks, but it spent twice that much during the same period. According to a campaign spokesman, a “significant portion” that one-point-four million dollars in spending paid for a campaign advertising blitz that started June 4, the day after the June 3 Primary.

The latest period for reporting campaign fundraising and spending ended at midnight. The disclosure report is due next Monday. Jack Hatch, Branstad’s Democratic opponent, has not yet released the latest fundraising and spending numbers for his campaign. According to a news release from the Branstad campaign, the governor will report having more than $4 million cash in the bank on July 14.

Election Day is 112 days away.
