When Greg Davis became the offensive coordinator at Iowa he said the program needed more speed at wide receiver. As he enters his third season directing the offense Davis says there is more speed and the Hawkeyes should be able to generate more big plays.
He says last year at this time, Tevaun Smith had played very little, Derick Willies was just arriving, and now he says Smith has played and Willies had a great spring and he believes they have more confidence.
Davis says the wide receivers made big strides a year ago. “I think that group will continue to grow…the tight ends are a really good solid group of tight ends and then all the backs are back. If we can stay healthy then we will have an opportunity to be pretty good,” Davis says.
Junior Jake Rudock returns at quarterback and Davis says sophomore backup C.J. Beathard could see meaningful playing time. “It will probably not be something that it is here, here, and here, it will probably be more by feel,” Davis says.
Iowa opens August 30th at home against UNI.
