A 28-year-old Fort Dodge man was found guilty of first-degree murder Tuesday afternoon by a Webster County jury. Derrick McElroy was accused of shooting 19-year-old Brandyn Preston during a bonfire party in May, 2011.

Preston died of his injuries in January, 2012. Prosecutors said that McElroy purposely shot into the party. McElroy’s attorney said another man was responsible for the shooting. Sentencing is set for September 19 in Fort Dodge.
