A former Iowa woman and a California man have admitted to defrauding an insurance company out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Court information shows former West Des Moines resident Christina Pender and California resident Robert Taylor pled guilty to defrauding AIG insurance out of the money.

Pender was an insurance adjuster for AIG and approved payments to companies in California owned by Pender for services that were never provided. Pender also approved payments to the Iowa-based MDP company which was part-owned by her then boyfriend. Pender admitted to approving around $925,000 in payments from AIG, including $666,000 that went to Taylor.

Investigators also discovered that Taylor was part of a mortgage investment scheme in California. Pender faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Taylor faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and a fine of one million dollars. A sentencing date is pending
