A jury in Wright County has found a Rockwell City man guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a police officer last year. The defense attorney for 33-year-old Corey Trott did not dispute that he fired the shot that killed Jamie Buenting, but argued the actions were not premeditated.

Jurors disagreed and now Trott faces life in prison without parole. His sentencing is set for 10 A.M. on September 26 in Rockwell City. The fatal shooting occurred during the early morning hours of September 13, 2013 after police went to Trott’s home to arrest him on a felony warrant.

Today would have been Buenting’s 38th birthday. He was an eight-year veteran of the Rockwell City police department.
