The mayor of a north-central Iowa town is challenging every resident in his community to be a part of the state’s biggest-yet Ice Bucket Challenge tonight to raise money for ALS research. Webster City Mayor Doug Getter says he’s hopeful for a very large turnout from the town of nearly 7,900 residents.

“The mayor and the city council have been challenged and we decided we would challenge the community,” Mayor Getter says. “We’ve invited any member of the community to come down with their bucket and their donation and join us at 9:45 P.M. for the Ice Bucket Challenge.”

Participants will be gathering in front of the newly-renovated Webster Theater building for the event. Getter is extending the challenge to his counterparts statewide. “One of the things that we will challenge will be other mayors and city councils across the state of Iowa to recognize the vital work that needs to be done with ALS research,” Getter says.

million to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease. Once challenged, you can either dump a bucket of ice water on your head and donate at least $10 toward ALS research and challenge three more people — or skip the challenge and donate $100.
